First Routine Persistent BVLOS Commercial UAV Services from a Major International Airport

ING Robotic Aviation claims to be the first UAV company in the world to perform routine persistent Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) commercial services operating from of a major international airport.

The month-long initial operation supported Government security operations during a major international event. Flight operations at this level of maturity are rare in the current drone world. Success requires close cooperation and coordination with the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, the Airport Authority, the Air Traffic Controllers (including, in this case, New York Air Route Traffic Control Center), and a very experienced unmanned aviation team.

ING, with over 35,000 hours of UAV flight services delivered in airspace as diverse as war zones, shipping lanes, the arctic, jungles, and more, delivered successfully and safely in this complex airspace. The UAV was fully integrated with helicopters, business jets, general aviation aircraft, and commercial airliners. ING flew their Serenity fixed-wing long endurance small unmanned aircraft.

“This is a major global milestone for unmanned aviation. The ATC Controllers expressed that they were exceptionally pleased with the success of the operation and were excited to add “drone controller” to their endorsements.”, states ING Robotic Aviation’s CEO/CTO, Ian Glenn, “Serenity was a rock solid performer in all phases of flight including automatic takeoff and landing (ATOL).”
